Gateway D5 Media Server Installation from Version 1.0 CD Prompting for a CD Key

ISSUE: During installation of the Gateway D5 Media Server software, using the disc titled Gateway Connected DVD Player Installation CD Gateway D5 Media Server version 1.0, you are prompted for an installation key, which cannot be located anywhere. Gateway D5 Media Server version 1.x does not require an installation key, but versions 2.x and above do.

CAUSE: Connected DVD Player shipping boxes with a date code later than September 24, 2003 may contain a Gateway Connected DVD Player Installation CD Gateway D5 Media Server version 1.0, Gateway part number 7513740. However, the software on the CD may actually be version V2.1B0708. To determine which software version you have, perform the following steps.

  1. From the Start menu or on the desktop screen, double-click My Computer.

  2. In the My Computer window, you are able to tell which version you have by the way the CD is named, next to the CD/DVD drive letter.

RESOLUTION: If the CD version is v2.1B0708, locate the CD key in the CD Key.txt file on the root of the CD.
