"Disk I/O Error" When Starting to IDE CD-ROM Drive
Affected Products: Desktops, Destination® PCs, Servers Affected Operating Systems: Not OS DependentISSUE: When starting to an IDE CD-ROM drive with a SCSI hard drive, a "Disk I/O Error" may appear. This may also occur with an Adaptec U/W Controller with the 1.32 BIOS. RESOLUTION: Update the Adaptec BIOS. The file is available from the Gateway Web site. The file name is 7505651.exe. - Download the 7505661.exe file to your desktop.
- On your screen, double-click the update file you downloaded.
- The files self-extract and copy into folder C:\Drivers\7505651.
- On your screen, double-click the My Computer icon.
- In the My Computer window, double-click C:, double-click the Drivers folder, and then double-click the 7505651 folder.
- In the 7505651 folder from the Edit menu, click Select All.
- In the 7505651 folder from the Edit menu, click Copy.
- Quit all open programs and close all open windows.
- Place a formatted, bootable blank disk in the floppy disk drive.
- On your screen, double-click the My Computer icon.
- In the My Computer window, double-click A:
- In the A: folder from the Edit menu, click Paste.
- From the Start menu, click Shut Down. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart the computer, and then click Yes. Leave the disk in the floppy disk drive while the computer restarts.
- At the command prompt, type: Update, and then press the ENTER key.
