Q: How do I change the screen resolution on my computer in Windows XP?

A: Use the following steps to change the screen resolution in Microsoft® Windows® XP.

  1. Open Control Panel.

    • From the Windows XP default Start menu, click Control Panel.
    • From the classic Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, open Display.

  3. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.

  4. On the Settings tab, in the Screen resolution area, move the slider to the right or left to change the resolution, and then click OK.

  5. The screen goes black for a few seconds, and then displays the new size.

  6. In the Monitor Settings dialog box, to keep the new resolution settings, click Yes.

  7. When the changes are complete, in the Display Properties dialog box, click OK.

    Note: At the higher resolutions, not all color depths may be available.
