Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I reformat my Gateway USB flash drive to a format other than what it is shipped with?

A: The Gateway USB flash drive can be formatted to NTFS.

If you do reformat the drive in other than the default format that it comes with, valuable space may be lost due to the size of the File Allocation Table (FAT).

For example:

On a 16-megabyte (MB) drive, you will lose more than 1MB to NFTS files. On a 128MB drive, up to eight or nine MBs may be lost.

Microsoft® Windows® XP will not format USB mass storage devices in NTFS. Microsoft® Windows® 2000 will allow USB mass storage devices to format in NTFS.

Windows XP and Windows 2000 will both read the drive if it is using NTFS. Microsoft® Windows® Me will not be able to read the format of the drive.
