Concluding Statements
After installing the NIC drivers, you are able to configure networking. Due to the various configurations and applications of Windows 2000 Server in a network environment, no additional steps are included for this process. By default, Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing, and TCP\IP are already installed. Also, by default, TCP\IP is configured to obtain an IP address automatically. Refer to the Configure Your Server Wizard and Windows Help for solutions to common questions regarding the network setup.
Known Common Issues
- Issue: Setup Could Not Find any Hard Drives when Installing Windows 2000 Server
This issue can occur if you have a RAID controller and the drivers are not installed at the very beginning of setup. It is important to press the F6 key during the initial startup of Windows 2000 setup, and then install the RAID controller drivers using a floppy disk.
- Issue: The System Does Not Start to the Windows 2000 CD
Verify that the CD is clean and that the ATAPI CD-ROM drive is the first boot device in the BIOS. Enter the system setup by pressing the F2 key during the power-on self-test (POST). The boot order is listed in the BOOT menu in the BIOS.
- Issue: When Using the Dcpromo.exe Tool, an "Active Directory installation failed: The network location could not be reached" Message Appears
To resolve this error, you must verify that the server's network adapter is firmly connected to a hub or to a switch with a network cable.
