Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why am I seeing twice the number of CPUs that the server actually has when I open Task Manager?

A: Most of Gateway's servers now come with processors that include Hyper-Threading technology. Hyper-Threading technology enables a processor to execute approximately two processes at any given time instead of one process like that of a non-Hyper-Threaded processor. It is this technology that makes the operating system recognize a single processor as two physical entities. This recognition is by design and cannot be disabled unless Hyper-Threading is disabled. Keep in mind that if you disable Hyper-Threading, you will notice some performance degradation because each processor will only be able to execute one process at a time instead of two.
