Note: The front portion of the server top cover can be opened or the entire cover can be removed. This document explains when and how to do both. A graphic at the bottom of the page illustrates the following steps.

Open the front portion

Open the front portion of the top cover to gain access to the power supply subserver, the blowers, the hard drive mounting brackets, the 3.5-inch floppy drive, the data cables, and the RAID cage backplane.

  1. Turn off the server, and then disconnect both power cords.

  2. At the front of the server, turn each of the three slotted top cover retainers 90 degrees counterclockwise.

  3. Lift the front portion of the cover.

Remove the entire cover

Remove the entire top cover if you require access to the server board to upgrade the CPU, install memory or an adapter card, or to plug in a connector.

  1. Perform steps 1 and 2 above.

  2. At the rear of the server, remove the four top cover screws.

  3. At the rear left and right sides of the server, remove the three top cover screws from each side (total of six screws).

  4. Remove the top cover.
