The NS-9000 is equipped with the following features:

  • Support for six Intel Pentium Pro ® processors, with dual 8-KB L1 processor cache integrated with additional 512-KB L2 cache
  • 32-bit PCI bus with eight slots (one shared)
  • 32-bit Enhanced Industry Standard Architecture (EISA) bus with five slots (one shared)
  • Memory expandable to 2-GB using the SIMM memory board (standard with the system. 4:1, 2:1, or 1:1 memory interleaving (4:1 memory interleave provides highest performance). Also available is an optional DIMM memory board which is expandable to 4-GB of RAM
  • Dual-channel, bus-mastering PCI Enhanced IDE interface, supporting up to four IDE devices as well as PIO modes 0-4 and Multiword DMA Type 2 hard drives
  • Integrated single-channel Fast/Wide SCSI controller (50-pin and 68-pin connectors)
  • Integrated floppy drive controller, supporting up to two 1.44-MB or 2.88-MB floppy devices
  • InforManager hardware, which continuously monitors system environments
  • InforManager software, including ActiveCPR (Central Processor Recovery), which monitors system status, reports out-of-tolerance conditions, and will "turn off" a CPU in potentially damaging situations
  • Phoenix upgradeable Flash BIOS with hardware and security management
