Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I mix memory in the Gateway 9315 Server?

A: In general, combining memory from different vendors is not recommended in servers. Subtle differences in tolerances arise by combining modules that are within specifications. These differences can cause anomalous behavior.

Gateway® tests all server memory sold with this server to ensure proper operation. Gateway does not guarantee consistent functionality when mixing memory from different vendors. However, there is not a reason to believe that memory from mixed vendors do not function correctly in most cases.

Note: Both DIMMs in a bank need to be identical (same manufacturer, CAS latency, number or rows, columns, and devices, timing parameters, and so on). Although DIMMs within a bank must be identical, the BIOS supports various DIMM sizes and configuration allowing the banks of memory to be different.
