Q: How are failures in a RAID Mirror indicated by the Gateway 9315 server's embedded SATA controller?

A: If only one hard drive is failed, the Intel® embedded RAID BIOS displays the following message during the startup of the server:

Port X is in a failed state

Warning : Array(s) in Degraded Mode!!!

Note: Where X is either 0 or 1 to indicate the drive which is failed.

If both hard drives are failed, the message changes slightly:

Port 0 is in a failed state
Port 1 is in a failed state

Warning : Array(s) in Offline Mode!!!

Note: The default configuration stops at this point with the prompt: Press any key to continue. To prevent the system from stopping at this point, under the Objects\Adapter menu, set the option StopOnError to No.

The status of the array can also be checked from the RAID BIOS by completing the following steps.

  1. When prompted, press the CTRL+E keys.

  2. On the menu, select Objects and then select Physical Drive.

  3. Each hard drive is listed as either Online, Failed or Ready.

  4. On this screen, press the F3 key to determine the state of the logical drive. The array displays as Online, Degraded or Offline.
