Linux Red Hat 9.0 Installation using the CDs

- Place the Linux Red Hat 9.0 Installation Disc 1 in the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the server. The computer starts from the CD-ROM and begins preparing the hard drive for Linux Installation.

- The first screen displays a list of different types of installations. Choose To install or upgrade Red Hat Linux in graphical mode, and then press the ENTER key.

- Drivers for installing the operating system are installed.

- Hardware contained in the computer is detected. Drivers for the respective hardware is installed.

- On the Welcome to Red Hat Linux screen, click Next.

- On the Language Selection screen, select English, and then click Next.

- The Keyboard Configuration screen prompts for the selection of the appropriate keyboard for the server. Select U.S. English, and then click Next.

- In the Mouse Configuration screen, select the type of mouse used with the computer, and then click Next.

- In the Installation Type screen, select Server, and then click Next.

- In the Disk Partitioning Setup screen, select Automatically partition, and then click Next.

Note A warning message about the partition table on device sda was unreadable may display. It prompts for initializing the drive, erasing ALL DATA? Click Yes.
- In the Automatic Partitioning screen, select the Remove all partitions on this system, and click Next.

- A warning about removing all partitions is displayed. Click Yes.

- In the Disk Setup screen, keep the default disk configuration, and then click Next.

- In the Boot Loader Configuration screen, accept the default, and then click Next.

- In the Network Configuration screen, setup lists the network cards found and prompts for changes on IP settings for each card. Configure the cards appropriately, and then click Next.

- In the Firewall Configuration screen, setup prompts for the security level desired for the server. In this example, we are choosing No firewall. Click Next.

- In the Additional Language Support screen, leave the default language of English, and then click Next.

- In the Time Zone Selection screen, select your appropriate time zone, and then click Next.

- In the Set Root Password, enter the password that you will use for the root (administrator). Confirm the password, and then click Next.

Note: The default password is gateway.
- In the Package Group Selection screen, scroll through the list of components and pick the ones that you need, and then click Next. In this example, the Everything option is chosen.

- In the About Install screen, click Next. Setup begins installing packages; this will take some time, depending on which packages you selected.

- The operating system is installed.

- In the Change CDROM screen, place disc 2 into the CD-ROM drive, and then click OK.

- When prompted, place disc 3 into the CD-ROM drive, and click OK.

- In the Boot Diskette Creation screen, the setup prompts to make a boot disk during this installation. Select Yes, and then click Next.

- Insert a floppy disk into the floppy disk drive, and then click Make boot disk.

- In the Graphical Interface (X) Configuration screen, the setup program detects the ATI Mach64 video driver. Click Next.

- In the Monitor Configuration screen, choose the appropriate monitor, and then click Next.

- In the Customize Graphics Configuration screen, select the appropriate color depth and screen resolution, and then click Next.

- In the Congratulation screen, click Exit. The server restarts. Ensure that any CDs and floppy disks are removed from the server's drives.
