DIMM slots This motherboard supports up to 6 DIMM slots. Use only DDR2-400 compliant, ECC, registered, 72-bit, single rank or dual rank, SDRAM modules in the following sizes: 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB.

  • 256 MB minimum capacity
  • 16 GB maximum capacity

DIMM population rules are as follows:

  • DIMM banks must be populated in order starting with the slots farthest from the MCH
  • Dual rank DIMMs must be populated before single rank DIMMs
  • A maximum of four DIMMs can be populated when all four DIMMs are dual rank DDR2-400 DIMMs

In this graphic, from top to bottom, the DIMM slots are designated as:

  • Bank 3, slot A (closest to the MCH)
  • Bank 3, slot B
  • Bank 2, slot A
  • Bank 2, slot B
  • Bank 1, slot A
  • Bank 1, slot B (closest to the edge of the board)
Both DIMMs in a bank need to be identical (same manufacturer, CAS latency, number of rows, columns, and devices, timing parameters, and so on). Although DIMMs within a bank must be identical, the BIOS supports various DIMM sizes and configurations allowing the banks of memory to be different.

The motherboard has DIMM fault LEDs. They are located to the right of the DIMM slots in the graphic. The LED is lit by the BIOS whenever the BIOS disables the specific DIMM.
