Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I create a RAID 5 array with a 955 Server?

A:
  1. Three hard drives are required for a RAID level 5. To accomplish this with the 955 Server, remove the floppy disk/CD-ROM drive module from the server and insert a hard drive into the bay using a hard drive carrier. After the third hard drive is in the server and the server has been restarted, run Power Console to add the third hard drive to the existing array.

Note: If Power Console is not already installed, use the Server Companion CD to install it. Restart the server after installing Power Console. When the server has entered the operating system, open the Power Console application.

  2. In the Power Console window, a third hard drive is displayed as ready. Select the ready drive, and then drag-and-drop it on the logical drive in the Logical Devices box.

  3. In the Change RAID Level window, select RAID 5, and then click Apply.

  4. The RAID is reconstructed. Depending on the size of hard drives used, this process may take a few hours to complete.

  5. When completed with the reconstruction, you are running at RAID level 5.
