Q: How do I hot swap a hard drive?

A: Note: Depending on when the server was purchased, the logo in the following graphics may not match the one on your hardware.

Remove a drive

  1. Use the appropriate software utility for your operating system to stop all activity on the failed hard drive and to determine which hard drive has failed.

  2. Unlock and open the RAID bay door.

  3. Pull the appropriate drive tray release lever away from the server.

  4. As the release lever is opened fully, the drive tray begins to slide out.

  5. Pull the hard drive tray straight out of the bay.

  6. Remove the four screws that secure the hard drive, and then remove the hard drive from the tray assembly.

Install a drive

  1. Place a drive in the hard drive tray assembly and secure it with the four screws removed in the previous section.

  2. With the hard drive tray's release lever open, slide the assembly into the open RAID bay.

  3. Ensure that the the tray lever closes fully.
