Q: How do I remove and replace or install an add-in card in the Gateway BTX server case?

A: Remove an add-in card

  1. Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cords and device cables.

  2. Remove the computer's right side panel.

  3. At the rear of the computer remove the thumbscrew that secures the add-in card retention door.

  4. Swing the add-in card retention door open.

  5. For more stability, you can carefully lay the computer case on its left side.

  6. Inside the case, locate the add-in card slots in the lower rear corner.

  7. If needed, disconnect any internal cables connected to the add-in card being removed.

  8. Using a rocking motion, lift the add-in card out of its slot.

  9. Replace the right side panel.

  10. Connect the computer's power cords and any device cables that were disconnected, and then turn on the computer.

Replace or install a new add-in card

  1. Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cords.

  2. Remove the computer's right side panel.

  3. At the rear of the computer, remove the thumbscrew that secures the add-in card retention door.

  5. For more stability, you can carefully lay the computer case on its left side.

  6. Inside the case, locate the add-in card slots in the lower rear corner.

  7. If this is a new installation, remove the slot cover from the slot you want to use. Keep the slot cover in the event that you remove the card at a later date.

  8. Align the add-in card with the open slot, and then firmly press it into place. Press both ends of the card to ensure that it is properly seated in the slot.

  9. If this is a new installation, follow any additional installation instructions that came with the card, such as connecting internal cables.

  10. If needed, stand the computer case up.

  11. At the rear of the case, close the add-in card retention door, and then secure it with the thumbscrew.

  12. Replace the computer's right side panel.

  13. Connect the computer's power cords, connect any cables needed for the new card, and any other device cables that were disconnected.

  14. Turn on the computer and then, if this is a new installtion, follow any additional installation instructions that came with the card, such as software or driver installation.
