SNMP and ManageX Installation

Note: SNMP Service must be installed prior to installing SNMP Agent and ManageX. If it is already installed and configured, go to ManageX installation.

SNMP Service installation

  1. Insert the Windows® 2000 Server operating system CD into the CD-ROM drive. Close the browser if it opens automatically.

  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. In the Add/Remove Programs window, click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  3. In the Windows Components Wizard dialog box, select the Management and Monitoring Tools check box, and then click Details.

  4. In the Management and Monitoring Tools dialog box, select the Simple Network Management Protocol check box, and then clear the other two check boxes. Click OK.

  5. In the Windows Components Wizard dialog box, click Next.

  6. SNMP is installed. Click Finish.

  7. Close the Add/Remove Programs window.

  8. On the desktop, right-click the My Computer icon. On the shortcut menu, click Manage. In the Computer Management window, double-click Services and Applications. In the right frame, double-click Services.

  9. In the right frame, in the list of services, click SNMP Service.

  10. In the SNMP Services Properties (Local Computer) dialog box, click the Traps tab.

  11. In the Community name text box, type the community name that you want to use, and then press the ENTER key.

  12. In the SNMP Service Configuration dialog box, in the Host name, IP or IPX address text box, type the appropriate information, and then click Add.

  13. The address appears in the Trap destinations box. Click Apply, and then click OK.

  14. Restart the server for the changes to take effect.

ManageX installation

  1. Insert the Server Companion CD (SCCD) into the CD-ROM drive. On the browser, click the 7450R tab.

  2. In the left frame, click ManageX Event Manager.

  3. In the right frame, scroll to the portion of the page that refers to installation. Click Click here to begin the installation.

  4. In the File Download dialog box, click Run this program from its current location, and then click OK.

  5. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Yes.

  6. In the ManageX Master Installer dialog box, click Install ManageX Event Manager.

  7. In the Welcome dialog box, click Next.

  8. In the Software License Agreement dialog box, click Yes.

  9. In the Choose Destination dialog box, click Next.

  10. In the Setup Type dialog box, click Next.

  11. In the Select Program Folder dialog box, click Next.

  12. In the Start Copying Files dialog box, click Next.

  13. Files are installed. In the Information dialog box, click OK.

  14. In the Setup Complete dialog box, click Finish.

  15. In the ManageX Master Installer dialog box, click Exit.

WBEM installation

  1. On the desktop, double-click My Computer. In the My Computer window, double-click the icon for the CD-ROM drive with the Windows 2000 Server CD in the drive. In the CD-ROM window, double-click the i386 folder. In the i386 window, copy WBEMSNMP.EX_.

  2. Paste the file to a local drive.

  3. Open a Command Prompt window. At the C:\ prompt, type: expand c:\wbemsnmp.ex_ c:\wbemsnmp.exe (where c is the location of the file that is to be expanded). Press the ENTER key.

  4. At the C:\ prompt, type: wbemsnmp.exe. Press ENTER.

  5. In the WMI SNMP Provider Installation Wizard dialog box, click Next.

  6. Files are installed. Click Finish.

  7. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Hardware icon.

  8. In the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard dialog box, click Next.

  9. Click Add/Troubleshoot a device, and then click Next.

  10. Click Add a new device, and then click Next.

  11. Click No, I want to select the hardware from a list, and then click Next.

  12. Click Other devices, and then click Next.

  13. Click Have disk.

  14. In the Install From Disk dialog box, type: d:\drivutil\mngmt_sw\mgagent\w2k (where d is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive). Click OK.

  15. The 7450R Driver appears in the Models box. Click Next.

  16. The 7450R driver is ready for installation. Click Next.

  17. The file is installed. Click Finish.

SNMP Agent installation

  1. Insert the Server Companion CD (SCCD) into the CD-ROM drive. On the browser, click the 7450R tab.

  2. In the left frame, click Server Management Agent.

  3. In the right frame, click Install Server Management Agent for Windows 2000.

  4. In the File Download dialog box, click Run this program from its current location, and then click OK.

  5. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Yes.

  6. In the 7450R Agent for Windows 2000 Setup dialog box, click OK.

  7. Click the button with the computer on it to begin the installation.

  8. The files are installed. Click OK.

  9. When prompted to restart the system, click Yes.

  10. If the server does not restart automatically, restart it manually.

Setting up ManageX

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, HP OpenView ManageX Event Manager, and then click ManageX Event Manager.

  2. In the ManageX window, in the left frame, click WBEM Browser. In the right frame, double-click Systems Management Server.

  3. In the right frame, double-click 7450R Components.

  4. The WBEM Object details are displayed. This data is not updated dynamically. To view the latest data, click the refresh button before you view the WBEM Object details.

  5. Click the device selector button, which is highlighted in red in the graphic.

  6. In the Device Selector window, click the Devices tab to select the server that will run ManageX. Click Apply

  7. Click the Current Selection tab to verify that the correct server is selected. Close the window.

  8. In the list of options in the left frame, right-click Policies. On the shortcut menu, point to All Tasks, and then click Set Directory.

  9. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, click OK to accept the default location installation directory, \Program Files\7450R Agent.

  10. In the left frame of the ManageX window, click Policies. In the right frame, click Available.

  11. In the right frame, right-click 7450RSnmptrap.mxw. On the shortcut menu, point to All Tasks, and then click Install.

  12. If the Command Queue window is open, the policy installation process is displayed.

  13. In the left frame of the ManageX window, click 7450R Components. In the right frame, double-click the entry for the server.

  14. The WBEM Object details are displayed. Click Close.

  15. You can open the Message Reader to view the events. The Message Reader is dynamically updated every few seconds.

  16. In the right frame, double-click an entry to view its properties.

You can also modify the error limit values in \winnt\7450R.ini. However, you must stop the SNMP service and restart it when you are finished.
