Q: What does a blinking screen mean?

A: In Microsoft® Windows® XP, the Standby screen may be blink continuously when the MP3 player is connected to the computer because Windows XP continuously checks for the connection. The blinking Standby screen is normal.

For other versions of Windows, a blinking screen may indicate that data transfer between the MP3 player and the computer is still in progress, even if the computer displays a "Transfer Complete" message. This occurs because computers apply buffering to allow you to perform other tasks while the transfer is in progress, even though the MP3 player may not have completed receiving all data. You should not disconnect the MP3 player from the computer in this case.
