Windows XP Service Pack 3 Installation Using Windows Update

The Windows® Update installation download can vary from approximately 65 to 320 megabytes (MB) (depending on what updates are already installed on the computer). To install using the Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 3 Windows Update installation, follow these steps.

Service Pack 3 installation

  1. From the Windows XP default Start menu, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.

  2. In the Windows Update window, click Custom.

  3. In the Windows XP Service Pack 3 window, click Download and Install Now.

  4. In the Read these license terms (1 of 1) dialog box, click I Accept

  5. Windows Update downloads SP3 and begins the installation.

  6. In the Windows XP Service Pack 3 dialog box, click Next.

  7. Setup inspects the current configuration and backs up files.

  8. Service Pack 3 is installed.

  9. In the Installation Complete dialog box, click Restart Now.

  10. The computer restarts.

  11. In the Help Protect your PC dialog box, select the appropriate option, and then click Next.

  12. Installation is complete.
