Automatic Installation: Formatted Drive

  1. Verify that the computer is turned off, and then disconnect all USB devices, such as a printer, scanner, or camera. This does not include a USB mouse or keyboard.

  2. Start up the computer with Disc 2 in the drive. While starting up or restarting, the Gateway Restoration CD Startup Menu opens. Press the DOWN ARROW key to select Install Windows, and then press the ENTER key.

  3. An Install Type dialog box opens. The default option is Automatic Installation. Click Next.

  4. The License Agreement appears. Select I accept the terms of the agreement, and then click Next.

  5. An Image Cast splash screen appears briefly.

  6. The Image Restoration Status dialog box reports the progress of file copying.

  7. The CD tray automatically ejects.

  8. A Remove the CD dialog box opens. Remove the CD, and then click Finish to start the installation of Windows.

  9. The Microsoft® Windows® Me splash screen appears.

  10. The Setting up hardware dialog box shows Windows initiliazing the driver database.

  11. Millennium Edition now sets up the hardware and any Plug and Play devices.

  12. The Hardware Detection dialog box opens. Windows detects the non-Plug and Play hardware in the computer.

  13. An earlier step appears again—the Setting up hardware dialog box. Millennium Edition sets up the hardware and any Plug and Play devices.

  14. The next dialog box shows Windows setting up Control Panel.

  15. In the Enter Network Password dialog box, type a password if desired, and then click OK.

  16. If Windows finds new hardware, a dialog box reports this while the software is being located.

  17. After the installation of native hardware drivers is complete, an Insert CD dialog box opens. It prompts you to insert Restoration Kit Disc 1.

  18. After inserting the CD, the Restoration Kit splash screen appears.

  19. The Copying dialog box opens, and additional files are copied automatically.

  20. The next dialog box prompts you to insert System Restoration Kit Disc 3. Insert Disc 3.

  21. Files begin copying automatically.

  22. After the files are copied, the Gateway Application Loader appears. You may remove the CD from the drive at this point. Additional programs are installed, and the computer restarts several times. Do not press any keys or buttons during this process.

Note: Reinstall all desired programs including Gateway GoBack, which is commonly located on the Application Restoration CD.
