Q: How can I find out what version of DirectX I currently have installed?

A:

Follow these steps to use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to determine the version of DirectX that is installed on your computer.

  1. Open the Run dialog box.

  2. In the the Run dialog box, in the Open text box, type: dxdiag. Click OK.

  3. The version of DirectX appears on the DirectX Version line in the System Information box, on the System tab in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window.

Note: To check the version information for each DirectX file, click the DirectX Files tab and find the appropriate files.

  4. When finished viewing, click Exit.

Note: If Windows cannot find the dxdiag program, DirectX version 5.0 or earlier is installed on your computer. If this is the case, download and install the current version of DirectX.
