Q: How do you manually put your computer into hibernation?

A: The computer can manually be placed into hibernation by one of the following methods, depending on the configuration.

Note: If Hibernation is disabled, the following steps do not work.

Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional Not on a Domain

Method 1:

  1. From the Start menu, click Turn Off Computer.

  2. In the Turn Off Computer dialog box, press the H key on your keyboard.

Method 2:

  1. From the Start menu, click Turn Off Computer.

  2. In the Turn Off Computer dialog box, press and hold the SHIFT key on your keyboard, and then click Hibernate.

Windows XP Professional on a Domain

  1. From the Start menu, click Shut Down.

  2. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, from the What do you want the computer to do menu, select Hibernate, and then click OK.
