1. Open Control Panel.

    • On the Windows XP default Start menu, click Control Panel.
    • On the Windows XP classic Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools.

    • If the computer is in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Administrative Tools.
    • If the computer is in Classic View, double-click the Administrative Tools icon.

  3. In the Administrative Tools dialog box, click Computer Management.

  4. In the Computer Management window, click the plus sign (+) next to Shared Folders, and then click Shares.

    Note: The Shared Folders section of Computer Management is the easiest place to view and manage all shares.

  5. On the Action menu, click New File Share.

  6. In the Create Shared Folder dialog box, browse to the folder to share, give the new share a share name, and then click Next.

  7. Select the appropriate permissions, and then click Finish.

  8. When prompted to create another shared folder, click Yes to create another or click No if finished.

  9. The new share appears in the Computer Management window.

  10. On the File menu, click Exit.

  11. In the Administrative Tools dialog box, click the File menu, and then click Close.
