- Open Control Panel.
- On the Windows XP default Start menu, click Control Panel.
- On the Windows XP classic Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools.
- If the computer is in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Administrative Tools.
- If the computer is in Classic View, double-click the Administrative Tools icon.
- In the Administrative Tools dialog box, click Computer Management.
- In the Computer Management window, click the plus sign (+) next to Shared Folders, and then click Shares.
Note: The Shared Folders section of Computer Management is the easiest place to view and manage all shares.
- On the Action menu, click New File Share.
- In the Create Shared Folder dialog box, browse to the folder to share, give the new share a share name, and then click Next.
- Select the appropriate permissions, and then click Finish.
- When prompted to create another shared folder, click Yes to create another or click No if finished.
- The new share appears in the Computer Management window.
- On the File menu, click Exit.
- In the Administrative Tools dialog box, click the File menu, and then click Close.
