Q: How can the registry be restored?

A: Note: If necessary, Scanreg can be run in Safe Mode.

  1. On the Start menu, click Run.

  2. In the Run dialog box, in the Open text box, type: Scanreg /restore, and then click OK.

  3. In the Windows Registry Checker dialog box, click Yes.

  4. In the Restore Registry dialog box, select a time when the Registry started correctly, usually the previous day. Click OK. The registry is restored.

  5. The computer restarts.

Note: It is also possible to start to the System Restoration CD (SRCD) and run the command.

  1. On the Start menu, click Shut Down. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart or Restart the computer, and then click OK.

  2. As the computer shuts down and restarts, place Disc 1 of the System Restoration Kit into the CD/DVD drive.

  3. When the computer restarts, select option 2. Boot from CD-ROM.

  4. On the Startup Menu, select option 1. DOS Prompt.

  5. At the D:\DOS prompt, type: C:. Press the ENTER key.

    Note: If GoBack is installed, the C: partition is not accessible. In these cases, it is recommended to use GoBack instead of Scanreg.

  6. At the C: prompt, type: CD\Windows\Command. Press ENTER.

  7. At C:\Windows\Command, type: Scanreg /Restore. Press ENTER.

  8. Select a date before the issue occurred, and then press ENTER.

  9. Press ENTER again to restart the computer. The registry is now restored.
