Q: How do I remove and replace the LCD panel on the Profile 5 computer?

A: Note: All directional instructions in this document assume that the case is viewed from the rear.

Remove the LCD panel

  1. Turn off the computer, disconnect all cables, and then remove the case cover.

  2. Inside the case, disconnect the two LCD panel cables.

  3. With the LCD panel height at about the middle position, flip up the hinge cover located at the top of the case

  4. Remove the hinge cover by flexing the silver discs outward, and then pulling the hinge cover toward the rear of the computer.

  5. Locate the hinge cover on the rear of the LCD panel, and then move it to the left.

  6. Pull the hinge cover back slightly to free the upper tabs from the slots.

  7. Free the tabs at the bottom of the cover, and then lift the cover out.

  8. Carefully note the routing of the LCD cables through the hinge area of the case for use during the replacement process. Release the cables from the several cable clips holding them.

  9. Push the LCD cables up through the opening at the top of the case, and then gently remove them from the hinge area.

  10. Free the LCD cables from the hinge support members.

  11. Move the LCD panel to its highest position, and then remove the four screws securing it to the hinge mechanism.

  12. Lift the LCD panel off the hinge mechanism.

Replace the LCD panel

  1. Place the tabs on the rear of the LCD panel over the indentions in the hinge mechanism.

  2. Secure the LCD panel with the four screws removed previously.

  3. Route the cable with the black connector between the hinge support members, and then through the left side of the hinge area.

  4. Route the cable with the white connector between the hinge support members, and then through the right side of the hinge area.

    Note: Make sure that the LCD cables are routed correctly through the hinge area. Incorrect routing of the cables can cause damage resulting in the need to replace the LCD panel.

  5. After the cables are routed correctly, insert the cables through the opening at the top of the case. Secure the cables with the clips at the top of the case.

  6. Connect the cables to the motherboard. The connectors are keyed to ensure correct connection.

  7. Lower the cable cover for the rear of the LCD panel close to its normal position. Move the cover all the way to the left and then tip it back slightly.

  8. Make sure that the LCD panel cables are routed out through the openings on the sides of the cover.

  9. Align the bottom tabs of the cover first, and then align the top tabs with the slots in the hinge mechanism.

  10. Slide the cover to the right until it snaps into its normal position.

  11. Align the top hinge cover over the top of the case hinges. Press the cover down until it snaps over the hinges.

  12. Flip the cover down until it snaps into place over the hinges on the back of the LCD panel.

  13. Move the LCD panel up and down a few times to verify that the LCD cables can move freely.

  14. Replace the case cover.

  15. Turn on the computer.
