Replacing the Floppy Disk Drive
- Remove the back cover by following the steps in Removing the Back Cover.
- If there is an electrical cord coming out of a retaining clip on top of the disk
drive bay, move it out of the way.
- Remove the four screws that secure the drive to the drive bay.
- Slide the drive out of the bay approximately one inch to provide adequate working
room.
- Remove any cable that is in the way of the floppy disk drive connection to the motherboard.
- Use your fingertips or a non-marring tool to lift the floppy disk drive data or ribbon cable connector from the motherboard.
- Remove the data or ribbon cable from the connector.
- Slide the drive completely out of the bay.
- Slide the new drive into the bay.
- Connect the data or ribbon cable to the floppy disk drive.
- Insert the new floppy disk drive data or ribbon cable into the connector on the motherboard.
- Press down on the two connector clips until they click into place.
- Slide the new drive further into the bay until the threaded screw holes on the drive line up with the holes on the drive bay, and then secure the drive to the bay using the four screws you removed previously.
- If you have finished replacing the internal components, replace the back cover.
