Q: Why does the printer not work with multiple users within Windows XP?

A: For multiple users to print in Microsoft® Windows® XP, each user must have a user profile set up to use that printer. Each user has to log on to ensure that the specific printer has been set to default.

Use the following steps to set the printer as the default printer for each user's profile.

  1. Open Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, open Printers and Faxes.

    • If in Category View, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click View installed printers or fax printers.
    • If in Classic View, double-click the Printers and Faxes icon.

  3. In the Printers and Faxes window, click the printer that you want to have set as the default printer.

  4. From the File menu, click Set as Default Printer.
