Q: How do I remove and replace the power switch assembly and power button on the Gateway E-Series 6-bay uATX case?

A: Note: The power switch assembly is the bracket and wiring harness that mount on the inside of the computer's front bezel, over the external power button assembly. This document explains how to remove and replace both of these items.

Remove the power switch assembly

  1. Turn off the computer, disconnect the power cord, and then remove the left side panel.

  2. Remove the front bezel.

  3. On the inside of the front bezel, locate the hard drive LED in the bottom half of the bezel.

  4. Using your fingernail or a small screwdriver, press back the two clips holding the LED, and then lift it free.

  5. Locate the power switch assembly near the center of the bezel.

  6. Using your fingernail or a small screwdriver, press to release the two tabs on one side of the switch assembly.

  7. Tilt the assembly up slightly.

  8. If needed, use a small screw driver to loosen the two tabs on the other side of the switch assembly so that it can be removed.

  9. Set the power switch assembly aside.

Remove the power button

  1. After the power switch assembly is removed from the bezel, the power button assembly is visible.

  2. At each end of the power button assembly, press the clip outward, and then lift the loop up.

  3. Remove the power button assembly from the bezel.

Replace the power button

  1. Place the power button assembly on the inside of the bezel so that the clear plastic light pipe is facing up.

  2. Secure the loops at each end of the assembly over the clips on the bezel.

Replace the power switch assembly

  1. Align the power switch assembly over the power button assembly. Tilt it so that the clips on one side of the assembly fit into place.

  2. Press the other side of the assembly down until its two clips click into place.

  3. Press the hard drive LED into its clips in the lower half of the bezel.

  4. Replace the front bezel.

  5. Replace the left side panel, connect the power cord, and then turn on the computer.
