Q: How do I remove and replace the hard drive in the 6-bay micro uBTX case?

A: Note: Ensure that you perform step 2 in the removal section below. If present, the shipping screw can be discarded.

Remove the hard drive

  1. Turn off the computer, and then disconnect the power cord.

  2. Carefully lay the computer on its side, and then check to see if there is a shipping screw on the bottom near the front of the case. If the screw is present, remove it. The screw can be discarded.

  3. Stand the computer upright.

  4. Remove the right side panel.

  5. Remove the air duct.

  6. At the rear of the hard drive, disconnect the hard drive signal and power cables.

  7. On the top of the hard drive cage, release all cables from the clips.

  8. Check to see if a shipping screw is securing the hard drive cage in the case. If present, remove the screw.

  9. Pull the hard drive cage toward you a short distance.

  10. Using small movements and care not to put stress on surrounding components, maneuver the hard drive cage out of the case.

  11. Carefully note the orientation of the hard drive in the cage for later use.

  12. Supporting the hard drive, remove the four screws that secure the hard drive in the cage. There are two screws on each side of the cage.

  13. Remove the drive from the cage.

Replace the hard drive

  1. Place the hard drive in the hard drive cage, and then secure it with two screws on each side of the cage.

  2. Note the tabs in the bottom of the case that secure the hard drive cage.

  3. Maneuver the hard drive cage into the case. Take care not to put stress on surrounding components or cables.

  4. Push the hard drive cage away from you a short distance so that the tabs in the computer case engage with the hard drive cage to secure it in place.

  5. If a shipping screw was removed from inside the case, you can replace it if desired, but it is not required.

  6. On the top of the hard drive cage, route the front panel cables through the clips.

  7. Connect the hard drive power and signal cables to the rear of the hard drive.

  8. Replace the air duct.

  9. Replace the right side panel.

  10. Connect the power cord, and then turn on the computer.
