The following table provides information about network configuration options supported by this card.

Note: In the Settings column below, the item in bold is the default setting for each option.

Option Description Settings
Network Driver Optimization Specifies how to optimize the network driver for your network by allowing trade-offs between network performance and processor utilization.
  • Normal - balances processor usage and network performance.
  • Minimized processor utilization - saves processor resources for other tasks.
  • Maximized network performance - is appropriate if no other applications are making major demands on processor resources.

  • Minimized CPU Utilization
  • Maximized Network Performance
Duplex Specifies the duplex mode, which determines if the network interface cable (NIC) transmits data across the network in both directions simultaneously, full-duplex, or in one direction at a time, half-duplex.
  • Auto Select - allows the NIC to connect automatically at the duplex mode of the connected hub or switch. When you select this setting, the Media Type is set to Auto Select automatically.
  • Full-Duplex - manually sets the NIC to operate in full-duplex mode. To use this setting, the switch to which you are connected must support full-duplex. You must also manually set the NIC Media Type setting.
  • Half-Duplex - manually sets the NIC to operate in half-duplex mode. You must also manually set the NIC Media Type setting.

  • Full-Duplex
  • Half-Duplex
Boot PROM Enables or disables the NIC's boot ROM.

The Boot PROM needs to be disabled when installed into a server. Since it defaults to Enabled, the setting may need to be Disabled when configuring the computer.

Media Type Determines the type of media your network is using.
  • Auto Select - allows the NIC to select the Media Type automatically for you.
  • If you set the NIC Duplex setting to Auto Select, the Media Type is set automatically to uto Select.
  • If you manually set the NIC Duplex setting, you must manually set the Media Type setting.
