Q: Why does my notebook memory operate at a lower frequency than what it is capable of?

A: The speed that the memory operates is determined by the motherboard and the processor's front side bus speed. The maximum operating speed is the lesser of the combination.

For example, if the notebook has a motherboard that operates at 533 MHz, and the memory and processor support 667 MHz, the speed of the memory and the processor throttle down to 533 MHz.
