Q: How do I view the notebook display on a projector in Windows Vista?

A: You can use your notebook for giving presentations by connecting a projector to your monitor (VGA) port. Your notebook supports simultaneous LCD and CRT display. Simultaneous display lets you control the presentation from your notebook and at the same time face your audience.

Note: If an external projector is connected and you close the LCD panel, your notebook turns off the LCD panel, but does not enter Standby mode.

Follow these steps to use an external projector.

  1. Turn off your notebook.

  2. Plug the projector cable into the VGA port on your notebook or the optional port replicator.

  3. Turn on your notebook.

  4. Plug the projector's power cord into an AC power source and then turn it on. Windows® detects the new hardware and searches for its driver.

Note: You may need to install the driver from the disc supplied by the manufacturer or download the driver from the manufacturer's Web site.

  5. In the New Display Detected dialog box, select the options for the external projector, and then click OK.

Follow these steps to adjust the display properties on the projector.

  1. From the Windows® Vista default Start menu, click All Programs, Accessories, and then click Windows Mobility Center.

  2. In the Windows Mobility Center window, click Change presentation settings icon (Presentation projector).

  3. In the Presentation Settings dialog box, adjust the properties such as Turn off screen saver and Set the volume to:, and then click OK.
