Q: Can I upgrade the operating system software on my Gateway notebook to Windows XP?

A: This notebook/operating system compatibility chart contains a list of Gateway® notebook computers that shipped with Microsoft® operating systems prior to Windows® XP™ and the version(s) of the operating systems that have been tested and certified for each notebook. Some earlier notebooks were offered with multiple options for the operating systems.

If you are upgrading your operating system to one of the operating systems that have been qualified for your motherboard, and have purchased the new operating system from Gateway, the new operating system is supported by Gateway. If you have decided to upgrade your operating system and have purchased the operating system software elsewhere, your new operating system is not supported by Gateway. This does not affect the hardware support covered by your warranty.

The drivers and BIOS updates for each Gateway qualified operating system are located on the Gateway Web site. As designated in the following table some operating systems use the native* Windows® drivers. The drivers posted on the Gateway Web site have been tested and certified with hardware configurations sold by Gateway. Gateway neither warrants installation nor supports drivers outside the Gateway site.
