Q: How do I use the Function (Fn) and System keys on this notebook?

A: To use a system key to perform a specific function, press and hold down the Fn key, press the system key with the desired image on it, and then release both keys.

turn the status lights on or off.
F2
turn the optional wireless network on or off.

Warning: Radio frequency wireless communication can interfere with equipment on commercial aircraft. Current aviation regulations require wireless devices to be turned off while traveling in an airplane. IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b, and IEEE 802.11a (also known as wireless Ethernet or Wifi) communication devices are examples of devices that provide wireless communication.

Important: Your notebook came to you with the optional wireless network turned off.

to enter Standby mode. Press the power button to leave Standby mode.

toggle the display in the following order:
  • Notebook display (default)
  • External or projector (a monitor or projector must be plugged into the monitor port on your notebook)
  • Both the displays at the same time

display the power status box in the upper left hand corner of the display screen. The box shows the battery charge level, the BIOS version and the optional wireless status.

turn the optional Bluetooth feature on or off.

increase the LCD panel brightness above the normal brightest setting. Use this feature in bright lighting situations, such as outside in bright sunlight. Press a second time to decrease the brightness below the normal lowest brightness setting. Use this feature in dim lighting situations. Press a third time to return the display to the normal brightness setting.

Note: Using this feature will affect battery performance.

mute the sound. Press the key combination again to restore the sound.

increase the brightness of the display.
LEFT Arrow
decrease the brightness of the display.
Scroll
turn on Num Lock so you can use the numeric keypad. Press this key combination again to turn off Num Lock. The Num Lock status indicator appears when this function is turned on.
