Q: How do I replace the optical drive on the Gateway M680 or NX850 notebook?

A:

  1. Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.

  2. Verify that the drive is empty.

  3. Shut down the computer, close the LCD panel, and then disconnect the power adapter.

  4. Disconnect the modem and network cables.

  5. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove any PC cards.

  6. Disconnect your notebook from the optional port replicator.

  7. Turn the computer over, and then remove the battery.

    1. Slide the battery lock to the unlock position.
    2. Slide the battery release latch.
    3. Slide the battery out of the bay.

  8. Remove the lock screw for the optical drive bay.

  9. Insert a small, straight wire, such as end of a paper clip into the emergency eject hole of the optical drive and press it until the tray ejects.

  10. Gently guide the drive straight out of the bay.
