Q: How do I adjust the volume in Windows 2000 on the Gateway M405 notebook?

A: To adjust the overall volume level using hardware controls, press Fn+PAGE UP or Fn+PAGE DOWN to increase or decrease the volume, or press Fn+HOME to mute the sound.

To adjust the overall volume level using Windows, on the taskbar, double-click the loudspeaker icon, and then drag the slider to change the volume. To mute the sound, click to select the Mute check box.

Adjusting Specific Volume Levels

  1. On the taskbar, double-click the loudspeaker icon.

  2. In the Volume Control window, move the sliders to adjust the volume or click to select the Mute check box, and then click OK.

  3. If the device you want to adjust does not appear in the Volume Control window, from the Options menu, click Properties, select the audio device you want to adjust, and then click OK.

  4. In the upper-right corner of the Volume Control window, click the Close button.
