Q: How do I adjust the volume in Windows XP on the Gateway M305CRV notebook?

A: To adjust the overall volume level using hardware controls, press Fn+PAGE UP or Fn+PAGE DOWN to increase or decrease the volume, or press Fn+HOME to mute the sound.

Adjusting System Volume

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel (Category view), click Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices.

  3. In the Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices dialog box, click Adjust the system volume.

  4. In the Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices Properties dialog box, on the Volume tab, in the Device volume area, click Advanced.

  5. In the Volume Control dialog box, move the sliders to adjust the volume.

    Note: If the device you want to adjust does not appear in the Volume Control dialog box, click Options, Properties, select the audio device you want to adjust, and then click OK.

Adjusting Specific Volume Levels

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel (Category view), click Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices.

  3. In the Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices dialog box, click the Volume tab.

  4. On the Volume tab, in the Device volume area, click Advanced.

    Note: If the device you want to adjust does not appear in the Volume Control dialog box, click Options, Properties, select the audio device you want to adjust, and then click OK.

  5. Drag the volume level and balance sliders for the device you want to adjust.
