Hard disk drive bay If you would like more hard drive capacity for your Gateway 600 notebook, you can replace the original drive with a higher-capacity drive.

Note: Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.

Replacing the Main Hard Drive

Warning: Disconnect the power adapter, disconnect the modem and network cables, and remove the main battery and optional secondary battery before removing the hard drive bay cover. Replace the cover before restoring power or reconnecting the modem and network cables.

  1. Shut down the computer, and then disconnect the power adapter and modem and network cables.

  2. Turn the computer over, and then remove the main battery and secondary battery, if installed.

  3. Remove the hard drive bay cover screw, and then remove the hard drive bay cover.

  4. Slide the hard drive kit away from the connector.

  5. Lift the end of the hard drive kit furthest from the connector, and then remove the drive kit from the bay.

  6. Place the new hard drive kit in the bay and slide it into the connector.

  7. Replace the hard drive bay cover and cover screw.

  8. Insert the batteries, and then connect the AC adapter, modem and network cables. Turn on your computer.
