Component Icon Description
Universal Serial Bus port (USB port) USB icon Plug USB devices (such as a floppy disk drive, flash drive, printer, scanner, camera, keyboard, or mouse) into these ports. USB ports support plug-and-play and hot swapping, which means that your computer usually recognizes such a device whenever you plug it into the appropriate port. When you use an USB device for the first time, your computer prompts you to install any software the device needs. After doing this, you can disconnect and reconnect the device at any time.
Optical drive   Insert CDs or DVDs into this drive.
Modem jack (optional) Modem icon Plug a dial-up modem cable into this jack.
