Q: How do I use the Function (Fn) and System keys on this notebook?

A:

Press and hold the Fn while pressing the function key... to...
F1 Turn the status indicators on and off.
F2 Turn the optional IEEE 802.11 wireless network radio on or off.

Note: The wireless network switch turns on both the optional wireless LAN and optional Bluetooth. The switch must be turned on for the wireless LAN and Bluetooth function keys to work (Fn+F2 for wireless and Fn+F6 for Bluetooth). If you have turned on the wireless network switch and then used a function key to disable one of the functions, the option selected remains until the wireless network switch is turned on and the function key is once again used to change the setting. For example; if you have turned on the wireless network switch to enable the wireless LAN and Bluetooth, and then used the Fn+F6 function to disable the just the Bluetooth option, even after turning the wireless switch off and then back on, the Fn+F6 function key must be used to enable the Bluetooth option again.

F3 Enter Sleep mode or Hybrid Sleep mode. Press the power button to leave Sleep mode.
F4 Toggle the convertible notebook display in the following order:
  1. The LCD
  2. An external monitor or projector (a monitor or projector must be plugged into the monitor port on your convertible notebook)
  3. Both displays at the same time
F6 Turn the optional Bluetooth radio on or off.

F8 Increase the LCD panel brightness above the normal brightest setting. Use this feature in bright lighting situations, such as outside in bright sunlight. Press a second time to decrease the brightness below the normal lowest brightness setting. Use this feature in dim lighting situations. Press a third time to return the display to the normal brightness setting.

Important: Using this feature affects the battery performance.

F9 Play or pause the CD or DVD.
F10 Stop playing the CD or DVD.
F11 Skip back one CD track or DVD chapter.
F12 Skip ahead one CD track or DVD chapter.
Scroll Turn on the numeric keypad. Press again to turn off the keypad.
Up Arrow Increase the brightness of the display.
Down Arrow Decrease the brightness of the display.
End Mute the sound. Press the key combination again to restore the sound.
PgUp Increase volume.
PgDn Decrease volume.
