Q: Why do I get a decoder error message when pressing FN+F4 to switch the display on my notebook computer?

A: When switching display's using a notebook's built-in function keys (typically Fn+F4), there is the possibility that the user will experience a decoder error. To resolve this, have the correct monitor displayed (either external or internal LCD only) before playing a movie. Because of where the system may be in the FN+F4 cycle, the correct display may be invalidated. If the customer presses the Fn+F4 function, and it goes from LCD only to external only, it will work. If the next cycle is dual display (integrated LCD and external display), it will error out. Users should avoid toggling the display while watching HD content.
