Q: How do I connect and disconnect the optional port replicator to the notebook?

A: Warning: Power is passed through the docking port. The docking connection on this notebook is certified to UL 1950 for use only with a port replicator designed for this Gateway notebook.

Connecting to the Port Replicator

You can attach the notebook to the port replicator while the notebook is off, on, in Standby or Sleep mode, or in Hibernate mode.

Follow these steps to attach the notebook to the port replicator.

  1. Connect external devices to the ports on the port replicator.

  2. Rest the front edge of the notebook on your desktop, and then hold the left edge of the notebook against the alignment rail.

  3. Press down on the outside edges of the notebook until it snaps into place.

    Caution: Do not press down on the middle of the notebook or you may damage the LCD screen.

Disconnecting the Port Replicator

You can separate the notebook from the port replicator while the notebook is off or on (not in Standby, Sleep, or Hibernate mode).

Follow these steps to disconnect from the port replicator.

  1. If the notebook is off, go to Step 2. If the notebook is on:

    • In Windows® XP from the Start menu, click Undock Computer.
    • In Windows Vista™ from the Start menu, click the right arrow button (located to the right of the Power button), and then click Undock.

      Note: The Undock Computer menu item appears in the Start menu only while the notebook is docked.

  2. Press down on the docking release latch. The notebook springs up slightly.

  3. Lift the notebook off of the port replicator.
