Intel 865G Chipset The Intel® 865G Chipset consists of the following devices:

  • Intel 82865G Graphics and Memory Controller Hub (GMCH) with Accelerated Hub Architecture (AHA) bus
  • Intel 82801EB I/O Controller Hub (ICH5) with AHA bus
  • Intel 82802AB (8-megabit) Firmware Hub (FWH)

The GMCH is a centralized controller for the system bus, the memory bus, the AGP bus, and the AHA interface. The ICH5 is a centralized controller for the motherboard's I/O path. The FWH provides the non-volatile storage of the BIOS.

The Intel 865G chipset contains two separate and mutually exclusive graphics solutions. Either the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 controller (contained within the 82865G GMCH) is used, or an AGP add-in card can be used. If an AGP Video Card is installed, the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 controller is disabled automatically.

Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Controller

The Intel Extreme Graphics 2 controller features the following:

  • Integrated graphics controller

    • 32-bits per pixel (bpp) graphics engine
    • 266-megahertz (MHz) core frequency
    • 256-bit 2D engine
    • 32-bit 3D engine
    • Motion video acceleration

  • High performance 3D setup and render engine
  • High quality/performance texture engine
  • Display

    • Integrated 24-bit 350-MHz RAMDAC
    • DDC2B compliant interface
  • Video

    • Dual monitor synchronous display with AGP Digital Display (ADD) card
Note: The AGP Digital Display (ADD) card is not a video card. It is a supplement to the Extreme Graphics Controller adding Digital output (DVI) capabilities for the graphics display. This option is not sold or supported by Gateway.
    • Hardware motion compensation for software MPEG2 decode
    • Two multiplexed DVO port interfaces with 165-MHz pixel clocks using an ADD card
