External Cache This is a closer view of the Type 1 CELP (Coast Edge Low Profile) socket located on the Integrated Pentium motherboard. The Pentium processor's internal cache may be complemented by adding a second level (L2) cache module in this socket using high performance Pipeline Burst SRAM with (GWE) Global Write Enabled. This socket can accept either 256K or 512K cache modules. There are no jumper settings that need to be made when installing a 256K or 512K module. The cache is automatically detected on boot. Gateway sells both 256KB and 512KB cache modules at the point of sale. Depending on system configuration, this external cache socket may or may not be populated with a COAST (Cache On A STick) module. The Type 1 CELP connector has a keying notch located at one end of the connector. This connector allows the use of both a GWE Pipeline Burst SRAM COAST Module and a GWE Asynchronous COAST Module. The GWE Asynchronous modules must be built for Intel's 82430VX designs and are not interchangeable with Asynchronous modules built for 82430FX designs. The reason for this incompatibility is the additional logic added to the 82430VX modules to account for the GWE functionality built into the chip set.
