This regulated the electrical component of very low frequency (VLF) emissions. In 1991, a more stringent standard, MPR II, was adopted that covers the levels of magnetic and electrical fields in both the VLF and extremely low frequency (ELF) ranges. One aspect of both standards is that there are no scientific studies that state whether or not the recommended MPR I or MPR II levels are hazardous.
