Patch to Improve Subscription Content MP3 PhotoJukebox Performance

Note: This patch is for the Gateway MP3 PhotoJukebox.

Issue: The performance of your Gateway MP3 PhotoJukebox slows when large amounts of subscription content (such as Napster to Go, Yahoo Unlimited, and so forth) is transferred to the player. The root cause is believed to be that the desktop applications (such as Windows Media Player 10) used to transfer music to the MP3 PhotoJukebox creates numerous "root licenses" on the player, which cause performance degradation. This patch remedies the issue, creating only one root license when content is transferred.

Resolution: Microsoft has released a PC-based patch (QFE) to that remedies this issue. This patch will update the performance of all desktop applications (Windows Media Player 10 build 3802, Napster, Yahoo, etc) and subsequently, the devices.

Steps:

  1. You must have version 3802 of Windows Media Player installed. You can download and install this from http://windowsmedia.com.

  2. Download and install the QFE patch, which you can find on the Microsoft Web site.

  3. For the fix to work, you must format your MP3 PhotoJukebox. This removes any multiple root licenses that were already on the MP3 PhotoJukebox.

Note: The QFE patch does not clean up multiple root licenses that were already on the player.

To reformat your MP3 PhotoJukebox, reinstall the latest firmware that is posted on the Gateway Web site, or use the desktop utility CD that was included with your MP3 PhotoJukebox.
