The test results are stored in the GWSCAN.log file. The creation of the log file is disabled in any of the following situations:

  • When using a command line option
  • When running the test from a write-protected disk
  • When testing the disk using the set parameters command to which the file is to be written (attempting to write the file to the drive being tested)

Note: This prevents data corruption on the hard drive, because the drive being tested may be the drive containing the log file, and the test drive may no longer be set to the parameters assigned by the BIOS.

When the QUIT option is selected, a copy of the GWSCAN.log file is stored in 001.log, or 002.log, or the first available log name through 999.log. So the results of previous runs of GWSCAN are saved.

The History.log file can be enabled with a command line option. This file contains all of the previous GWSCAN.log files. If this file is enabled, it should be deleted periodically to conserve disk space if GWSCAN is being run repeatedly.

The copy of the log file that is shown on the screen contains results from the last test only. Every time a new test is selected from the main menu, the log file in memory is cleared. The log file on the disk captures the results from all of the tests as they are run. Press any key to return to the main menu.
