Q: In Windows 95/98/Me, every time I try to dial out with my modem, I get a message that the modem is already in use by another program. I don't have any other programs loading. How can I fix this?

A: Try uninstalling Accessiblility Options.

  1. From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the Add/Remove Properties dialog box, click the Windows Setup tab.

  4. In the Windows Setup tab in the Components list, click to clear the Accessibility Options check box, and then click OK.

  5. From the Start menu, click Shut Down. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart the computer, and then click Yes.

  6. After Windows has restarted, try the modem again.
