Q: After connecting a new Universal Serial Bus (USB) device to my computer (that did not have any USB devices), why does Windows XP not detect the new device?A: This problem may occur because when no device is connected to a USB port, the USB driver sets the OHCI controller to suspend. When the OHCI controller is in a suspend state, it cannot always detect when you add a new USB device to the computer.
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack 1A or newer for Windows XP. For additional information, the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base is 322389 - "How to Obtain the Latest Windows XP Service Pack".
