Q: Why is there a delay to my picture being taken with a digital camera?

A: There is a delay with a digital camera as it attempts to auto focus the subject/object being the center of the picture. The camera also analyzes the condition of the flash. This delay is normal for this camera. There are other factors that can contribute to this delay. For instance, low batteries may be the cause. Using the LCD to take pictures decreases battery life. Using the viewfinder helps lengthen the life of the battery. Another cause may be that the camera is not steady. The auto focus feature has a more difficult time with a subject that is in constant motion.

Some steps to help mitigate the time delay are:

  • Steady the camera.

  • If possible, attempt to auto-focus the subject by gently pressing the shutter button half way. This activates the auto focus and checks the condition of the flash. When your subject is ready, take the picture.
