Q: What type of printer do I need to print my photos?

A: This really depends on what kind of printing you do. Here are a few options:

A regular inkjet printer, such as an HP DeskJet, Epson Stylus, or Canon BubbleJet. These printers do a good job of printing photos, especially on special paper, but their main job is text and simple graphics, at which they excel.

Photo printers: There are two types:

  • Small: These have nice output, but are expensive to buy and maintain. These only print on small (4 x 6) sheets on paper.
  • Normal: Such as the Epson Stylus Photo printers and the HP PhotoSmart. These photo printers use regular, letter sized (or larger) paper, and do amazing work on glossy or coated paper. However, these supplies are also costly, are not quite as good with text, and they tend to be very slow. See the printer specifications if this is a concern.

If you can get both types of printers, do so. If you do a lot of text printing, you may want to get an inkjet printer, since the photo printers are not as fast with text printing.
